Police investigating shooting after a St. Augustine's University student was injured early Wednesday morning

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Raleigh police are investigating a shooting that left a former St. Augustine's University men's basketball player injured and put the campus on lockdown early Wednesday morning.

University police and the Raleigh Police Department received reports about the shooting on campus around 1 a.m.

Police said 20-year-old Damarian Henderson was injured and taken to WakeMed in stable condition. Henderson was a forward on St. Aug's men's 2014-2015 basketball team.

School officials said the campus was quickly put on lockdown after the incident, and a suspect, 18-year-old Omari Fujah Williams, was taken into custody.

Williams, who is also a student at St. Augustine's, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury in connection with the shooting.

Authorities said the men knew each other and the incident was isolated, with no further threat to the campus.

The lockdown was lifted around 4:30 a.m. The investigation is ongoing.
