Because of the forecast for a winter storm that includes snow and freezing rain, the North Carolina Zoo will be closed to the public Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The latest forecast shows increased snow totals across the viewing area, according to ABC11 Chief Meteorologist Chris Hohmann.

"A storm system will arrive tomorrow morning around sunrise or a bit later in the Triangle. We've upped the snow totals in the Triangle to 3-6 inches, with 6 inches or more north and west," Hohmann said.

The Zoo announced the closing on its website. It is expected to resume operations Monday.

On another note, if you're planning a trip to Asheboro to visit the Zoo, the Aviary will be closed until Feb. 1-5 because of maintenance.
