GARNER (WTVD) -- Garner police are investigating an apartment fire that sent two people to the hospital as arson.

It happened about 9 p.m. Monday at the Greenbrier Apartments on Shady Lawn Court.

Garner Police told ABC11 the fire started in a mattress inside the bedroom of a first-floor apartment.

The Wake County Fire Marshal's Office has not released its final report, but because investigators said the fire wasn't accidentally set, they're deeming it arson.

Officers said the man who lives in the apartment was able to escape and was taken to WakeMed for treatment. He remains unidentified and there is no word yet on how seriously he was injured.

Police said the fire was contained to the man's bedroom, but smoke seeped into the apartment above his, which led to a woman jumping from her second-story window to escape the smoke.

The woman, Cassandra Leak, was listed in good condition Tuesday at WakeMed.

Residents in seven surrounding apartments were displaced following the fire Monday night.

Authorities have not said whether anyone will face charges.
