The benefits of yoga are well researched and documented, which is why the Triangle nonprofit, You Call This Yoga, is offering free weekend classes for military members and their families at One Heart Yoga in Fuquay-Varina.

"Our mission is to help the physically challenged, under-served, and improve their life through yoga," explained Howie Shareff, You Call This Yoga Founder.

He explained why he wants to do this for military members and their families.

"We find military personnel and their support group their families often do not have enough capacity to manage the stresses of service, injuries and adjustments," he said. "We believe yoga is a nice tool to facilitate that through our gentle or active practices."

Beginning Sunday, Jan. 31, at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., military members and their families can take free yoga classes in Fuquay-Varina.

"It's free classes," said Shareff. "Meditation in the family class is at 4 p.m. and the adaptive class for active military personnel is at 5 p.m.," he said. "We'll have the family classes with trauma sensitive teachers and the active classes with new, beginners, or experienced can follow along. I'll be teaching the adaptive classes for those who cannot walk well or who have other disorders."

Initially, the free yoga for military classes will be offered once a month, but, the goal is to expand to twice a month on Sundays by March.

Pre-registration is recommended. For more information click here.
