RALEIGH (WTVD) -- About 500 people woke up to no power in southern Wake County Thursday morning.

It happened around 2 a.m. when a car slammed into a power pole on Rock Service Station Road just north of Highway 42.

The driver apparently got out of the vehicle and tried to run but was later caught.

The road was not expected to reopen until later Thursday morning.
