A Raleigh animal control officer responded to Alamance Drive in Raleigh earlier this month after reports that a raccoon appeared to be sick.

The animal was captured and later tested positive for rabies.

The raccoon came in contact with a dog but the owners said the dog was up to date on its rabies vaccination.

There were no reports of contact with people in the area.

Any concerns about animals in Raleigh should be reported immediately by calling (919) 831-6311.
