Authorities ID driver killed in Johnston County fiery crash

Highway Patrol identified the driver who was killed in Johnston County early Friday morning (WTVD)

The North Carolina Highway Patrol has identified the driver who was killed in a fiery crash on Castleberry Road in Johnston County Friday morning.

Troopers said he was 23-year-old Michael Clement of Clayton.

Investigators said Clement was headed south on Castleberry Road when he went around a curve and lost control.

The vehicle then went onto the left shoulder where it collided with a tree and became engulfed in flames.

Around 7:20 a.m., an off-duty officer noticed the extinguished vehicle off the roadway and called authorities.

Investigators said speed was a factor in the crash.
