Snow and ice hits North Carolina

A mix of rain, sleet and snow caused big problems across the Tar Heel State. The North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to 317 accidents Monday morning and officials in Wake County responded to 40 crashes during the morning commute.

Massive interstate pile up in Indiana

In Indiana, Interstate 65 is finally back open after a massive pile up. Police say between 40 and 50 cars were involved in a crash on Sunday. Heavy snow caused slick road conditions that police think contributed to the accidents. Many people were treated for injuries, the most serious reported was a broken leg.

Record cold shatters train rails in Boston

Travel was halted for folks in Boston this morning as well. The cold blast of arctic air shattered train rails interrupting service for morning commuters. The 60 year low temperature record was stattered when the mercury dropped to nine below. Wind chills made it feel like minus 36.

Dozens trapped in ski tram

A horrific scene unfolded in New Hampshire on Sunday. Forty-eight people, including an 8 month old baby, were trapped in sub-zero temperatures when a tram got stuck at a local ski resort. Tourists and skiers were trapped, dangling off the ground for more than three hours before emergency workers were able to lower people to the ground. No frostbite or injuries were reported.
