FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A Fort Bragg soldier ran into a burning apartment to save a family Monday night.

It happened at the Carlson Bay Apartments off Cliffdale Road in Fayetteville.

Everyone got out of the three-story apartment building safely.

Firefighters suspect the fire started on the back balcony of a third-floor unit, but the fire quickly spread to the roofline and flames could be seen jumping from the roof.

The fire was quickly gotten under control, but some units on the second and third floors suffered some smoke and water damage.

As the fire burned, residents who smelled smoke ran out and started beating on neighbors' doors, trying to alert everyone to the danger.

The Fort Bragg soldier, Aron Miranda, was able to run into the apartment where the fire started to help get the people out from there.

"I went out there to see if they were OK," Miranda said. "And there were two kids in there and a lady by herself ... she got out of there."

Miranda said the fire was on the balcony.

Firefighters are still working to find a cause.
