A woman is hit by a stray bullet after gunfire erupts near Apex.

WAKE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A woman was shot near Apex on Friday night, according to the Wake County Sheriff's Office.

Our crew on the scene said three cars pulled up on Arrowhead Drive and some kind of fight ensued.

Deputies identified the victim as 56-year-old Delphie McClain.

A bullet struck McClain and she was taken to WakeMed with non-life-threatening injuries.

Law officers said eyewitnesses described the three vehicles as a green pickup, a small, green sedan and a red Dodge Charger.

The altercation began after the three vehicles pulled up to the residence. Shots were fired and McClain was apparently hit by a stray bullet. All of the vehicles left the scene, but deputies said it is possible that the back glass was shot out of the green pickup.

The investigation is ongoing. The sheriff's office asks that anyone with any information about this case or any sightings of the vehicles matching these descriptions to please call (919) 856-6911.
