DURHAM (WTVD) -- A 79-year-old man was shot in the arm Wednesday shortly before 3:30 p.m. on Ridgeway Avenue.

A police officer heard gunshots in the area of McDougald Terrace. The officer found the victim, who had been shot in the arm, near Building 49.

The man was working on his car when shots were fired from a white vehicle, now believed to be a newer model Ford Taurus.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening, police said.

Police have not released the victim's name but those who live in the area describe him as a quiet man who is always working on one car or another. They also say he usually keeps to himself and can't believe this happened to him.
