Historic bell stolen
A piece of history was stolen from the Shaw House.

SOUTHERN PINES, NC (WTVD) -- The Southern Pines Historical Society says no questions will be asked if a historic bell is returned to the Shaw House.

The 170-year-old plantation bell was stolen from the property last week.

The bell is from Bennett Plantation -- which is known to movie lovers as the setting for Steven Spielberg's movie The Color Purple.

During the Civil War, northern troops took everything from the plantation, except the bell, which was too heavy.

The bell was donated to the Shaw House in 1996 and has been rung by visitors since.
