Two people taken to the hospital after person hit by car in Clayton

CLAYTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Tensions ran high outside the American Legion building in Clayton after a suspected drunk driver hit a woman in a parking lot.

Authorities said it happened just after 11 p.m. on Old U.S. Highway 70.

Our crew on the scene said the scene grew hostile and the driver involved was assaulted.

Clayton police said 39-year-old Jose Carlos Colon hit 29-year-old Nastassia Donyun Little in the American Legion parking lot. Little was treated for a broken leg at WakeMed, according to Clayton Public Information Officer Stacy Beard.

Carlos was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and Careless & Reckless Driving.

According to people who say they witnessed the incident, Carlos was assaulted by attendees at the party and is at WakeMed with non-life threatening injuries.

Police are investigating and charges ma be pending against the people or person who assaulted Carlos.

"The scene was in a state of confusion when officers arrived and they appreciate the assistance of the Johnston County Sherriff's Office, NC State Highway Patrol troopers and Wilson's Mills police in helping to control the scene so that Johnston County EMS and investigators could do their jobs," Beard wrote in a press release.

Despite the American Legion's location outside of Clayton city limits, Clayton Police are serving as the lead on this investigation.
