One dead after shootout between cars in Fayetteville

A man stopped at a house on Strickland Bridge Road to call 911

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Fayetteville police say one person died after a shooting between two cars Sunday afternoon.

It happened on Raeford Road around 4:10 p.m. Police say a dispute led to the shooting as they drove along the road near Festival Drive. The shots continued as they headed down Raeford Road and turned onto Strickland Bridge Road, then to the area of Applecross Avenue.

One of the vehicles involved, a white Nissan SUV, stopped at a house in 1100 block and a man called 911. He was found with a gunshot wound to his back. Police say the residence was not related to the shooting.

That person died while at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center. His name is being withheld until authorities contact his family.
