DURHAM (WTVD) -- A woman is in the hospital after her car rolled over on her south of Durham early Wednesday morning.

It happened around 4 a.m. on NC Highway 751 in northeastern Chatham County about two miles south of the Durham County line.

According to investigators, the driver - identified as 55-year-old Deborah Perkinson Johnson of Apex - ran off the two-lane highway near Lassiter Homestead Road when she entered a curve at a high rate of speed.

Rescuers said she was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. Her Ford Mustang rolled over several times, and then landed on top of her - pinning her underneath.

It took rescuers about 70 minutes to get her out from underneath it and rush her to UNC Hospital with serious injuries.

Johnson has been charged with traveling left of center, exceeding a safe speed, and failing to wear a seat belt.
