Police: Woman let teen drive at 102 mph in Wake Forest

WAKE FOREST, NC (WTVD) -- Police say a woman let a 15-year-old drive her car at 102 mph while she sat in the back seat with three other juveniles Tuesday night.

Officers stopped Sheryl Tyndall Powell's car near Capital Boulevard and Popes Creek Drive in Wake Forest just before 11 p.m. The posted speed limit there is 55.

According to an arrest warrant, Powell, 42, of Youngsville, had marijuana in her purse and there were open containers of alcohol in the car.

Powell was charged with misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of juvenile, child abuse, and marijuana possession.

According to an arrest warrant, the 15-year-old driving had been drinking, but was not legally drunk.

Bond for Powell was set at $10,000.
