FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) --A break has been made in a 6-year-old rape case in Fayetteville.
On Wednesday, the Fayetteville Police Department Cold Case Sexual Assault Unit arrested a man and charged him with a rape from 2009.
It wasn't hard for the police to find Dynell Lamar Nixon, 48. Nixon is currently serving a prison sentence for failure to register as a sex offender.
DNA evidence has linked Nixon to the crime.
The rape happened April 21, 2009, in the area of Skibo Road and Richmond Court. On that night, a 22-year-old woman who had just gotten off work and was waiting for a ride home was approached by a man who forced her at knife point to the rear of a building, where he raped her.
The case was reopened by the FPD Cold Case Sexual Assault Unit and after follow-up investigation Nixon was identified as the suspect.
Nixon was taken from Harnett Correctional Institute back to the Cumberland County Detention Center where the warrant for arrest was served. He is charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree rape, and first-degree sex offense.
He is being held on $100,000 secured bond.
