Investigators say the wind caused a tree to fall onto a car with two people in it

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Two people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries after high winds caused a tree to fall on their car.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of Trinity Avenue.

One person was able to get out of the vehicle on his own and had facial injuries, according to officials.

Our crew was on the scene as emergency workers cut a woman out of the car and began immediate treatment. She was identified as 30-year-old Wendy Rodriguez. Officials say she was in cardiac arrest. Both victims were taken to Duke University Medical Center.

The tree also brought down a live power line. 25 firefighters responded to the call.

No other information was immediately available.

This report has been corrected after Durham police updated their initial report from four people inside the car to two.
