Did a thief have a change of heart? Burlington Police aren't sure, but they do know that a rifle that was stolen from a pawn shop was mysteriously returned.

On Friday, police responded to a larceny call at USA Pawn at 2110 N. Church St. Before officers arrived, the suspect fled the store with a Weaver Arms Nighthawk 9mm rifle.

In the days since, the firearm reappeared. It was found abandoned in the parking lot of the pawn shop.

Police don't know if the same person who took it later returned it.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact the Burlington Police Department at (336) 229-3503 or Burlington/Alamance Crimestoppers at (336) 229-7100.
