Police: UNC student robbed at gunpoint near campus

Intersection of North and Henderson Streets

Chapel Hill police are investigating after a UNC student was robbed near campus overnight Wednesday.

An alert email sent out to students, faculty, and staff said the armed robbery happened near the intersection of Henderson and North Streets just before 1 a.m.

One suspect reportedly exited the Jeep and approached the victim, displayed a handgun, and took the student's backpack and wallet. The second suspect approached the victim and took his cellphone, officials said.

The suspects fled in the Jeep and were believed to be headed out of Chapel Hill towards 15-501.

The victim was not hurt. He said one of the suspects may have been around 6 feet tall; the other suspect was slightly shorter.
