Family escapes from burning Johnston County home

JOHNSTON COUNTY (WTVD) -- A family of three escaped from their burning Johnston County home without any injuries thanks to neighbors.

It happened Wednesday night on George Wilton Road in the Cleveland Community.

Neighbors said they raced to warn the sleeping father, mother and middle-school aged son as they saw flames shooting up from the roof.

"I saw flames in the back of the house ... coming up from the back ... I thought he might have been burning limbs when I saw flames coming above the house ... It's time to react," neighbor David Atkinson said.

Firefighters are now trying to figure out the cause of the blaze and the extent of the damage.
