Fayetteville police arrest man they say stabbed girlfriend

Fayetteville police have arrested a man wanted in the stabbing of his girlfriend on April 1.

Jonathan Mitchel Wright, 35, was taken into custody Friday and charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

FPD officers, acting on a Crimestoppers tip, detained Wright at an address on Village Drive.

He was processed at the Cumberland County Detention Center where he is being held on a $250,000 secured bond.

On April 1, officers responded about 8:45 p.m. to the 2000 block of Progress Street, but said the stabbing happened earlier that day, about 1 p.m. at a Red Roof Inn in the 3100 block of Bordeaux Park Drive.

Michelle Lee Taylor, 31, was stabbed during an argument. Taylor was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with multiple stab wounds to her shoulders and chest, one which caused a collapsed lung.
