Canopy thrown, KFC sign knocked down as winds rip through California
LOS ANGELES -- Strong and damaging winds ripped through Southern California on Monday, wreaking havoc on many.
The strongest wind gusts hit Orange County, San Bernardino and Riverside County Valleys, the Inland Empire, the Santa Ana Mountains and Foothills.
Strong winds blasted the coastline, even taking down a sign at KFC near 45th Street and Atlantic Avenue in Long Beach.
In Valencia, a canopy was tossed across a parking lot due to power winds. The canopy came crashing down into vehicles.
No one was injured during the incident, but the canopy and two vehicles suffered minor damage.
A boater had to be rescued off the coast of San Pedro after the wind created choppy conditions too hazardous for a small sailboat to handle.
Crews with the Los Angeles Fire Department came to the man's rescue, throwing him a rope and towing him into the marina.
No one was injured during the man's rescue.
