Effects of storm
Hail, and high winds caused headaches across the area.

Severe storms brought hail, lightning, winds and heavy rain to much of the ABC11 viewing area Thursday evening.

On Arizona Drive in Raleigh, a tree came crashing down just a few inches away from a mobile home. Neighbors said it just missed a young girl.

In Garner, a lightning strike trigged a fire in a home's attic. And it appeared lightning may have caused a utility pole to split on Smith Road at Stephenson Road in Apex.

The high winds also knocked a tree into the middle of Brookhollow Road in Orange County.

Most of the storms had moved through by 9 p.m.

Friday, we will have a dry day in the wake of a cold front that will push south of the region in the morning.

Temperatures will remain above average with partial sunshine. It will then turn cooler Friday night and Saturday with high pressure to the north and a light northeast flow near the surface.

A storm system will then lift northeastward on Sunday from the Mississippi Valley and spread showers and storms back to our area Sunday right on through Monday.
