Sheriff: Fayetteville student had rifle at high school

A 71st High School student has been charged with having a weapon on campus.

Derrick Sekilo Farrior, 18, is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center after being charged with felony possession of a firearm on school property.

Police said Farrior, a senior was arrested Wednesday for having a .22 caliber rifle at school.

He and another student were seen by school personnel sitting in a car in the student parking lot and were questioned about being in the parking lot and not in class.

Farrior allegedly told school personnel there was a rifle in the trunk of his car.

Farrior is being held on $5,000 secured bond. His first court appearance is set for 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
