The North Carolina Museum of Art is hosting a free event for teens

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Museum of Art is putting on an event geared for teens on Saturday, April 30. It's called ArtScene, the Spring Teen Event and organizers say it is a day full of performances, art-making workshops, gallery activities, and exhibits from the museum's online high school courses.

"We have drawing activities, sculpting activities, one of the artists upstairs, Greg Lindquist, who is a Brooklyn based artist, will also be on site doing a participatory installation-

inviting students to paint collaborative canvases," explained Harriet Hoover, Coordinator of Teen and College Programs with the NC Museum of Art. "There will be drawing activities, food, and Enloe dance will also be here, and Enloes comedy Improv Group. And we have 2 rock and roll bands."

Teens can take part in the event from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. in the East Building. The teen event is one of many family friendly events planned for the spring and summer at the NC Museum of Art.

Every Friday, the museum holds Art in the Evening with live music.

"There's free music and a cash bar there available," Hoover said. "It's a great place to meet up after work to hear the music and tour the collections, and, on Friday, we also have free entry for college students. If they show their college ID, they get into special exhibitions."

Families can also take free weekend morning guided tours of the museum.
