Two people shot in downtown Raleigh
Authorities investigating shooting on Swain Street in Raleigh.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Authorities in Raleigh are investigating a shooting that left two people injured and dozens of bullets on the ground Wednesday night.

Just before 9:30 p.m., police received a call about shots being fired on S. Swain Street and E. Cabarrus Street, near Lenoir Street -not far from Ligon Middle School.

Images from the scene showed yellow placards marking more than 20 shell casings on the ground.

Two men were shot during the incident and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

One of the men, 25-year-old Gabriel Cortez Peele, was charged with drug possession and intent to sell after being released from the hospital Thursday morning.

Police are currently searching for the gunman or gunmen.
