Assistant fire chief busted on video
Police say the surveillance video shows the man shoplifting

CLEARWATER, Florida (WTVD) -- A Florida assistant fire chief has resigned from his job after being caught on video allegedly stealing a $3 energy drink.

You see Ronald Gemsheim as he walks down the aisle of a 7-Eleven carrying two complimentary fountain drinks. He then bends down and grabs an energy drink from a shelf and puts the container in his pants pocket.

Gemsheim then walks up to the counter, chats with the clerk, and leaves the store without paying for the drink.

The manager follows him out and confronts him. He claims he forgot to pay for the drink and walked back in and put it on the counter.

But police say the surveillance video clearly shows him readjusting the drink in his pocket while at the counter.

Gemsheim is now facing shoplifting charges.
