ELK GROVE, California (WTVD) --A smash and grab robbery at a gun store in California didn't go as the crooks planned.
Surveillance video shows them using a vehicle to completely smash in the front doors of the business.
Masked men then come running in to scoop up the guns. One problem - they weren't there.
The gun shop owner puts his inventory in a separate locked room every night.
The robbers tried to break down the door of that room but couldn't do it.
The Department of Justice and the ATF have asked gun shop owners to keep inventory locked behind dead-bolted doors to prevent just these kinds of robbery attempts. In this case, it paid off.
