GOLDSBORO (WTVD) -- A state trooper responding to a call was involved in a crash Thursday in Wayne County.
A spokesman for the Department of Public Safety said that because of the pressing nature of the call about a person on Hood Swamp Road pointing a gun, troopers traveled onto the unopened portion of US 70 East by-pass east of Wayne Memorial Drive in an attempt to get there more quickly.
As troopers approached the Hare Road overpass, they collided with a 2006 New Holland TN60 tractor with a front broom sweeper operated by a Barnhill Company contractor worker.
The operator of the tractor has been identified as Jimmy Reid, 53, of Tarboro. The trooper has been identified as Reggie Edwards, a 26-year veteran assigned to the Wayne County Highway Patrol Office.
Both Reid and Edwards were taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They were later released.
Troopers are continuing their investigation into the collision.
