RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A 19-year-old was rushed to the hospital after he was struck by a car in Raleigh on Friday afternoon.

Raleigh police told ABC11 it happened about 3:30 p.m. on Pecan Road. Authorities said Deshune Ronrices Bennett Jr. stepped into traffic and was hit by an oncoming car driven by Ashley Lauren Adorian, 25.

Bennett, of the 7600 block of Huey Ct in Raleigh, was taken to WakeMed with serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said.

An eyewitness told our crew on the scene there was a city bus on the other side of the street, and the teen may have been trying to catch it.

"It sounded like the car hit a cardboard box," said eyewitness Tremaine Jones. "By the time I looked, he was on top of the car and she was stopped, and he went into the street."

Police said Adorian was unable to reduce speed in time to avoid hitting Bennett because the bus obstructed her view of Bennett as he tried to cross.

No charges will be filed against Adorian, in connection with the accident. She will, however, be charged with driving while license revoked.
