Triangle couple wins national dance competition
Dennis and Mary Lou compete at a competition

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Dennis Porch started taking dance classes to meet girls. He stayed because of the combination of athleticism and artistry. Mary Lou Porch started dance class out of curiosity and she liked the people at the dance studio. Years later, the two are married, and they were just named the USA National Dance Champions.

Check out their GoFundMe page to help get them to the World Championships.

By day they both work at Wake Tech. Dennis is a communications professor, Mary Lou works with disabled students. And they just Cha Cha'd their way to a championship.

Here's video of one of their competition dances. It's not like what you see on Dancing With the Stars. All the couples are on the dance floor together, trying to perform specially choreographed routines.

We caught up with them at Elite Ballroom Dance Studio in Morrisville.

Here they are after they won the championship.

They design their own costumes, get a tailor to sew them, then they add all the bling. They do a lot of the work themselves to save money, but each costume still costs about $1000.

The World DanceSport Federation will announce where the world championship will be in June. Only 2 couples are picked from each country and that means Dennis and Mary Lou are on their way!
