FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Fayetteville police officers who responded Tuesday evening to a call of shots beings fired in the area of Morganton Road and Skye Drive, received quite a surprise.

When they got there, they spoke to the man who had called for help. He said someone was shooting at him.

But officers quickly realized something was amiss. The man, Robert Harold Tippett Jr. 19, was under the influence of narcotics, police said, and was hallucinating.

Officers took Tippett to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center for evaluation and while there, they got their next twist: Tippett blurted out that he was the robber passing the notes at the Subway.

The officers contacted detectives with the FPD Robbery Unit and it was confirmed that Tippett was the suspect from the Subway robbery on Sunday morning and Baldino's robbery from earlier Tuesday. Tippett was treated at the hospital and taken into custody upon his release for the robberies.

Tippett, of the 3800 block of Chicken Foot Road in St. Pauls, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of stolen goods, and he had an outstanding warrant for shoplifting by concealment.

He was taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center where he is being held on a $55,500 secured bond.
