Officials said a driver tried to cross both lanes of traffic and turn onto US-70

DURHAM (WTVD) -- A Durham County Sheriff's deputy was involved in a wreck with another car on US-70 at Angier Avenue Saturday night.

Officials said the deputy was going east on US-70 around 9:45 p.m. when the driver of the other car made a left turn from Angier Avenue onto the highway, crossing both lanes of traffic. That's when the vehicles collided, authorities said.

The deputy and the driver were taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to officials.

Both vehicles had significant damage. The deputy's cruiser was damaged in the front while the other car had damage to driver's side.

US-70 eastbound was closed as authorities and emergency crews responded.

The State Highway Patrol is investigating.
