RALEIGH (WTVD) -- With inspiration from some of the country's most powerful women, a Triangle teenager is planning a social justice summer camp aimed to help teens and preteens.

Zyon DeVaughn attended the United State of Women Summit in Washington, D.C. Convened by the White House, it brought together women and girls for talks on gender issues.

"I saw President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Oprah, Shonda Rhimes, Kerry Washington, and a lot of very inspirational people," said DeVaughn.

DeVaughn is a youth leader who is getting help planning the summer camp from college students.

She is inspired by the advice Michelle Obama gave at the summit: You don't have to worry about the haters. Be your authentic self. Be you.

DeVaughn said she hopes men could sometimes take a step back and listen and collaborate as women navigate the ups and downs of contemporary America.
