Belk providing free mobile mammograms

When you think of free mammograms, you probably don't think of Belk, but, that's exactly what you'll find as the BelkGives On the Go Mobile Mammography Center rolls into towns across the Southeast.

"We're in our third year. We've seen over 10,000 women, and we've diagnosed over 50 cases, and I'm happy to say those are all survivors and they're all doing very well," explained Cathleen Wallace.

As the Assistant Director of Mobile Mammography Operations for Charlotte Radiology, Cathleen Wallace directs the mobile team for Belks Mobile Mammography Center.

"This set up really makes it convenient for women," Wallace said. "They can have their mammogram and go in and purchase a birthday gift, do whatever they want while out and about.

So, it makes it very very convenient, very quick, not a lot of planning involved so it's a very easy process for women," she said.

Women age 40 and over with no breast concerns, who have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months and have a primary care physician are eligible by calling 855-655-BMMC (2662) to schedule an appointment.

After receiving their mammograms, women also can visit the Intimate Apparel area in their Belk stores to receive complimentary bra fittings.

All screening exams are performed by Charlotte Radiology's licensed, female mammography-certified technologists. A board-certified radiologist, specialized in breast imaging will interpret the mammogram. Confidential results will be sent to the patient and her primary care physician.
