It happened on I-40

DURHAM (WTVD) -- The Durham Police Department says a woman hurt in a motorcycle crash on I-40 July 15 has passed away from her injuries.

Investigators said Sherry Blackburn was critically hurt Friday in the accident in the westbound lanes close to the American Tobacco Trail bridge over I-40 - not far from the Streets at Southpoint mall exit.

It happened just before 9 a.m. when several vehicles suddenly slowed down. Investigators said an SUV and a Harley Davidson motorcycle driven by 48-year-old Ricky Blackburn slowed and tried to move into the left lane.

As they merged, the front wheel of the motorcycle clipped the SUV, throwing the Blackburns to the pavement.
