Chapel Hill police have charged five people in connection with a double shooting that left one person dead and another injured Tuesday night.

It happened shortly before 10 p.m. in the 100 block of Jackie Robinson Street near Adelaide Walters Street, and near Legion Road.

When police officers arrived at the scene, they found two people seriously injured and had them taken to UNC Hospitals.

One of the victims, 18-year-old Malik Devon Brown-Burnette of Chapel Hill, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

"Malik was a guy with great character. He was respectable," said Tiaunna Weaver, Brown-Burnette's cousin. And anybody who knew him, and truly knew him, knew he was all about respect and love. He loved his family. So it's hard and everyone's grieving. So we just ask that everyone lift us up in prayer and that they help find justice."

All four have been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder, among other robbery and accessory charges.

Chapel Hill police have also obtained arrest warrants for Denzel Lamont Spikes, 23, of Shelby (pictured below). He is facing the same charges as the other four in custody, excluding the accessory charge.
