WAKE FOREST (WTVD) -- A 14-year-old boy suffered a broken leg and facial fractures when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Wake Forest on Friday night.

A state trooper at the scene said the teen was conscious and alert when taken to WakeMed for treatment. Saturday, officials told ABC11 he is in critical condition.

Troopers said the teen was identified as Andrew Nacional, of Wake Forest. He is expected to recover.

Authorities are looking for a dark-colored Sport Utility Vehicle that hit him and drove away around 9 p.m. Eyewitnesses told troopers the teen was "sort of sitting" in the roadway when the SUV struck him on Burlington Mills Road.

The SUV was going west on Burlington Mills, toward Capital Boulevard.

The portion of Burlington Mills Road from Danforeshire Way to Night Heron Drive was temporarily closed because of the incident.

The Wake Forest Police Department is assisting the NC State Highway Patrol.
