HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- Two young residents of the Carolina Lakes subdivision near Sanford, N.C. spent Sunday afternoon raising money for a special cause.

Alex, 7, and his brother Ryan, 5, wanted to have a lemonade stand. Their mother, Sarah Strunk, gave them permission and helped them build it.

"I told them they could absolutely do it," Strunk told ABC11, "but we wanted to make it special and give a portion of their earnings to support the charity of their choice."

Alex and Ryan selected the non-profit organization Harnett County Shop With A Sheriff, Inc. Once word spread about their stand on Facebook, members of the Harnett County Sheriff's Office stopped by for a visit.

The boys raised more than $300 in donations in the first two hours the stand was open.

Strunk said the boys' father is currently deployed to Afghanistan, and they wanted to make him proud. The family is already planning a hot chocolate and cookie stand in December. They'll choose another charity to receive donations at that time.
