Police: Suspect shot during Garner restaurant robbery

GARNER (WTVD) -- A man who police say tried to rob a Garner restaurant early Saturday morning ended up being shot at the scene, according to authorities.

It happened just before 5 a.m. at the Buffalo Brothers restaurant in the 7200 block of White Oak Road.

Officials said two suspects went into the closed restaurant and attempted to rob two contract employees who were inside working on the interior of the building.

A struggle broke out and one of the suspects were shot.

Police identified him Saturday evening as Jesse Martin McLaurin, 23, of Raleigh, He was taken to WakeMed and is listed in fair condition.

McLaurin has been charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Neither victim was injured during the incident. Police recovered a handgun at the scene.

The second suspect fled on foot toward Target with an unknown amount of cash.

He was described as an African American man in his 20's, standing about 5'9" to 5'10" tall with a thin muscular build, possible facial hair, and short hair. He was last seen wearing dark pants and a dark long sleeve shirt.

The incident is still under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
