Authorities said a man, Chad Cameron Copley, 39, fired a shotgun from inside his garage and hit Thomas.

Copley was arrested and charged with murder. He was taken to the Wake County Detention Center.

Police were called to a home on the 3500 block of Singleleaf Lane around 1 a.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2016.

ABC11 obtained a 911 call that appears to have come from the suspect.

PARTIAL TRANSCRIPT OF THE 911 CALL

Operator: Can you tell me exactly what happened?
Caller: We have a lot of people outside of our house. They were shouting obscenities. I asked them to please leave the premises. They were showing their firearms. I fired a warning shot. One of them was hit.

Operator: Someone got shot?

Man: I don't know if someone was shot but I fired my warning shot and most people left. Two black people. They do have firearms and I was trying to protect me and my family.

Over the past year, police have responded to the suspect's home four times. Calls consisted of a missing juvenile, fraud, service call and domestic in nature.
