ORANGE COUNTY (WTVD) -- The driver of a tractor trailer full of hot peppers is facing charges after the 18-wheeler overturned along southbound Interstate 85 in Orange County Tuesday morning.

It happened just after 5:30 a.m. near mile marker 169, between the US-70 and NC-86 interchanges, near Hillsborough.

One lane of the interstate was blocked for several hours as authorities worked to clear the scene.

According to authorities, 61-year-old Barry Shearin of Castalia, North Carolina, went off the highway and overcorrected before running off the roadway again.

The Chili Peppers Transport truck ended up on its side. The truck driver only had scrapes and bruises from the incident. Shearin was charged with careless and reckless driving, and failure to maintain lane control.
