Woman shot in Holly Springs

HOLLY SPRINGS -- A woman is in the hospital after being shot near a Holly Springs shopping center late Wednesday night.

It happened just after 10:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Village Walk Drive.

When police officers arrived at the scene, they found a woman in the parking lot behind a business suffering from a gunshot wound. A man was with her, but was not injured.

The woman was taken to WakeMed in unknown condition.

Authorities said it appeared the incident was accidental, and there is not ongoing threat to the public.

The incident is currently under investigation.
