A man was hit and killed near Exit 306

GARNER, N.C. (WTVD) -- A pedestrian was killed Friday night after a vehicle struck him on I-40 west in Garner.

State Highway Patrol said 42-year-old Jonathan Ray Brewster, of Linden, attempted to cross the highway at Exit 306 around 10:13 p.m.

The driver who hit the man was identified as 23-year-old Stephen James Holden, of Raleigh.

Holden waited for authorities to arrive. Troopers said he will not face charges.

Troopers initially told ABC11 the victim was 43 years old. Brewster's age has been corrected.
