Couple gets married at Duke Hospital
The two have been trying to get married for some time but Heidi was alway fall ill with kidney problems

DURHAM (WTVD) -- Weddings at Duke are a pretty common thing, but they usually take place at the famed chapel on campus. But on Tuesday, there was a beautiful ceremony at Duke Hospital.

Patient Heidi Fisk and her fiancée, Jerremie Duncan, have been trying to get married for years. They've known each other since kindergarten.

But every time they'd make plans, Heidi would fall ill due to kidney failure and have to go to the hospital.

Her nurses at Duke jumped into action. They helped plan the ceremony and even prepared a cake and flowers as well as doing Heidi's hair and makeup.

Heidi says the day couldn't have been more special.

"To me, love means sticking together no matter what obstacles come your way, whether it's being sick or not being sick," she said.

A chaplain from the hospital performed the wedding. The couple's family and friends from Danville, Virginia were there for the happy day.

Heidi thanked her nurses for their top-notch care and all the help getting her hitched.
