Graham man charged with DWI after fatal I-85 crash

ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Graham, N.C. man has been charged with DWI and multiple other felonies in Tuesday's fatal I-85 crash.

Wednesday, North Carolina State Highway Patrol charged 40-year-old Robert Jason Mace in the crash that killed his female passenger, 35-year-old Lisa Nicole Parker.

Around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday, Mace was driving a passenger van south on I-85 near mile marker 165 in Orange County. Troopers said Mace ran off the right shoulder and struck a stationary tractor trailer.

Mace's van then collided with a Toyota pickup truck, driven by 41-year-old Jason Graffunder of Burlington. His pickup truck overturned.

Parker, of Mebane, died at the scene. Mace and Graffunder were taken to Duke Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Mace was released from the hospital and processed at the Orange County Magistrates Office. He is charged with felony death by a motor vehicle, felony serious injury by a motor vehicle, driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving, failure to maintain lane control, and improper passing.

Before the wreck, witnesses said Mace was driving in a careless and reckless manner. Mace was also seen passing vehicles in the emergency shoulder of I-85.
