Blowing up a balloon with yeast
BASF shows you how to blow up a balloon using yeast

Did you know you can blow up a balloon without the use of helium or your breath? All you need is a packet of yeast, a clean, clear plastic soda bottle, a teaspoon of sugar and some warm water to get started.[br /][br /] How does this experiment work?[br /][Ads /][br /]As the yeast eats the sugar, it releases a gas called carbon dioxide. The gas fills the bottle and then inflates the balloon as more gas is created.[br /][br /]Click here to download a PDF of the instructions for this experiment to print and recreate at home![br /][Ads /][br /]Find us at Facebook.com/abc11scienceclub to share photos and videos of your balloon!
