Three people shot in downtown Fayetteville
Police are looking for a suspect who goes by J-Rock.

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Fayetteville police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal shooting in downtown Fayetteville Monday night.

Police said it happened about 7:45 p.m. in the 300 block of Adam Street in downtown Fayetteville.

Three men standing in the area of Adam Street near Kennedy Street were shot by a man with a handgun, officials said. Two of the men - 32-year-old Robert Nowell and 43-year-old Alton Barron - were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. The other victim, 47-year-old Jeffery Alford, later died from his injuries.

Police say the shooting suspect, 39-year-old John Lee Nowell, nicknamed "J-Rock," was arrested without incident at a residence on School Street by the FPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team.

Nowell has been charged with first degree murder, 2 counts of attempted first degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
