Now is the time for families who may need holiday assistance to get in touch with agencies to register for toys, clothes, or food

The calendar may still say October, but now is the time for families who may need holiday assistance to get in touch with agencies to register for toys, clothes, or food.

"It's that time, unfortunately, where we're thinking about Halloween costumes we wear or candy prepping for Thanksgiving, but, we've already started this process even back in July prepping for this," explained Lizzy Adams, Director of Salvation Army Public Relations.

The Salvation Army of Wake County has already registered more than 3,000 families in need of holiday assistance through their Angel Tree program. Adams urges any families who may need help to get in touch with organizations now to prepare for the holiday season.

"School social workers are working really hard to make sure they are available of the various resources and programs like ours to help families in need," Adams said.

"The United Way hotline 211 is a great way they can check out and see what organizations are able to help give and help them this holiday season," she said.

"Of course they can call our office,The Salvation Army, and see what resources they would be able to benefit from."

"It's been a tough year with Matthew," she said. "And, while we have so many people hurting, we have an extremely generous community too."
